About us

We are a small independent practice, and our people are fully committed to its success.

  • We've only one outlet, so we can stay focused on what we do. There are no other branches to run.
  • We've only a few members of staff, and personnel changes are rare, so you can always see the same person if you wish. He or she can get to know your individual requirements.
  • Staff receive a salary only. There are no sales targets or bonuses so you can always be assured of honest advice.
  • We're locally owned, and the proprietor is based in the practice full-time. We can therefore respond quickly and effectively to any feedback we receive.

We endeavour to always:

  • Offer high quality eyewear at an affordable price.
  • Provide a professional eye examination during which we listen to our patients.
  • Fully explain the results of the eye examination and our suggested solutions.
  • Take as long as is necessary to provide honest, friendly and unbiased help in choosing frames and lenses.
  • Provide a first class aftercare service.
  • Always listen and act on any complaints that we may receive.

Our team

Brian Davidson  Optometrist & Proprietor

Brian began his optics career in 1982, and established the practice in its present form in 1992 when he took over from previous owner Isobel Brown. Outside of the practice, Brian's kept busy with his family and enjoys cycling and playing tennis.

Craig Davidson  Manager

In addition to managing the practice, Craig is involved in dispensing and problem solving, and is currently training to become a dispensing optician. Outside of work, Craig enjoys keeping fit and going to the gym.

Jackie Davidson  Optical Assistant

Jackie is responsible for our frame buying, and helps our patients choose the most appropriate styles for them. Her main interests are looking after the family. Originally from Luxembourg, she can speak fluent French and German in addition to English and her native Luxembourgish.

Jane Cargill  Optical Assistant

Jane handles reception, dispensing and initial examination duties. Outside of work, she's kept busy with her two young children.

Bryan MacIntosh  Optical Technician

Bryan's main role is to make up your glasses, and to assist with dispensing, initial examinations and problem solving. He's been in optics for over 25 years.  Outside of work, his main hobbies are listening to music and playing keyboards & guitar.

The team is supplemented by Catriona Hastie who usually works with us every Tuesday and when Brian is on holiday. An experienced optometrist, she holds additional qualifications which allow her to prescribe certain prescription-only medicines for minor conditions affecting the eye. This avoids the need for a separate GP appointment.
